Patient Tech Support for Southbury Seniors — Including Heritage Village
From 2016 to 2022 I was the maintenance carpenter who ran the mill shop at Heritage Village. Same person, same unhurried approach — now helping with computers, phones, email, Wi‑Fi and smart home devices instead of tools and lumber.
No travel charge for Southbury. In your home, over the phone, or by remote screen‑share — whichever suits you.
Six years on the property, in the mill shop
Most people who show up at Heritage Village offering computer help are strangers to the community. I'm not. For six years I was the maintenance carpenter there and ran the mill shop — building and repairing what needed building and repairing across 2,580 homes and a thousand acres.
That means I know the place. I know how the condos are built and where the wiring tends to run. I know the difference between the phases, and I know that "just past the Activities Building" is a real direction. If you lived there between 2016 and 2022, there's a fair chance we've met.
It also means I already know how to work in someone's home — take the shoes off, clean up after myself, explain what I'm doing, and not make anyone feel foolish for asking.
"I spent six years fixing things in these homes. The tools changed, but the job didn't: show up when I said I would, do the work properly, and explain it in plain English."
— Eric Hickcox, ownerThe everyday things, sorted out properly
No question is too small, and I'll explain it as many times as you'd like. If I can't help with something, I'll tell you honestly and point you somewhere better.
Phones & Tablets
Setting up a new phone, learning to text, video‑calling the grandchildren, or finally silencing those pop‑ups.
Email & Online Safety
Getting email working, spotting scams before they cost you, and keeping accounts and passwords secure.
Internet & Wi‑Fi
Slow or dropping Wi‑Fi, a new router, or getting the television and streaming working the way it should.
Smart Home Setup
Video doorbells, smart speakers, plugs and thermostats — installed, working, and actually explained.
Condo living has its own tech quirks
A freestanding house and a Heritage Village condo are not the same problem. Thick masonry walls, shared utility runs, wired-in doorbells and thermostats that were never designed for an app — these come up again and again, and knowing the buildings saves a lot of guessing.

A standing answer to "is this safe?"Someone to call before you click, not after. This is what the Peace‑of‑Mind Plan is really for.
If something feels wrong, call me before you click
Fraud aimed at older adults is not a small problem, and it's getting worse. The single most useful thing I do is be the person you can call for thirty seconds to ask "does this look real to you?"
Reported to the FTC in losses by adults 60 and over in 2024 — roughly four times the 2020 figure.
Share of all internet‑crime losses borne by adults 60+ in 2025, despite being only 20% of complaints.
Lost by adults 60+ to tech‑support scams alone in 2024 — the fake "your computer is infected" call.
That last one is worth sitting with. Criminals impersonate people like me to get remote access to your computer. So here's my standing rule, and you can hold me to it: I will never call you out of the blue about a problem with your computer. If someone does, hang up and call me on the number you already have.

Do you come to Heritage Village?
Yes, regularly. It's about a 25 minute drive from my shop in Thomaston, and I know the property well — I was the maintenance carpenter who ran the mill shop there from 2016 to 2022. There's no extra travel charge for Southbury.
Are you affiliated with Heritage Village?
No, and I want to be clear about that. I worked there as a maintenance carpenter from 2016 to 2022, but Assisted Tech Support is my own independent business. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or contracted through the Heritage Village Master Association.
Can you help over the phone instead of coming out?
Often, yes — plenty of questions get solved in a single phone call. For anything I really need to see, I can set up a remote screen‑share so I'm looking at your screen while we talk it through. Whatever's easiest for you.
I think I may have been scammed. Can you help?
Call me, and don't feel embarrassed — this happens to sharp, careful people every day. If someone got remote access to your computer, or you gave out a password or card number, the first few hours matter. I'll help you shut off access, change what needs changing, and check that nothing was left behind.
Which other towns do you cover?
In-home visits anywhere within about 35 miles of Thomaston, which covers Southbury, Woodbury, Middlebury, Oxford, Waterbury, Watertown, Naugatuck, Litchfield, Torrington, Bristol and quite a few more. Phone and remote help works anywhere at all.
Let's get it sorted
Tell me what's giving you trouble and I'll tell you honestly whether it's a five minute phone fix or worth a visit. No obligation, and no jargon.
